Ahn Un-san, His Holiness the Taesang Jongdosanim

Ahn Un-san, His Holiness the Taesang Jongdosanim of Jeung San Do, was born in Korea in 1922. Both of his parents followed Sangjenim’s teachings, and he learned to meditate from an early age. During two weeks of intensive meditation in his youth, he became spiritually awakened to the way Sangjenim’s holy work of renewal was unfolding in the world—and realized that his own purpose in life was to convey Sangjenim’s truth to humanity.

As a teenager, he traveled independently throughout Korea and China. Following Korea’s liberation from Japan in 1945, he founded a movement to disseminate Sangjenim’s teachings, calling it Jeung San Gyo (“Teachings of Jeung-san”). This organization constituted the second stage of Dao dissemination, the successor to Taemonim’s movement, and in the years that followed, the Taesang Jongdosanim gathered and taught tens of thousands of people throughout Korea.

It was during this period that he accomplished something without precedent in human history: he became the first to draw the diagram of the Cosmic Year, making the governing framework of Sangjenim’s Dao—the birth, growth, and maturation of human civilization across the great cycle of cosmic seasons—accessible and comprehensible to all people for the first time.

With the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, Korea entered another dark and devastating period. On the Winter Solstice of the following year—a moment of deep symbolic significance in the cosmic cycle—the Taesang Jongdosanim disbanded his movement, instructing his followers to maintain their faith and await the time to come. In 1954, he withdrew from public activity, entering a period of inner cultivation and preparation that would last twenty years.

In 1974, the Taesang Jongdosanim emerged from this period of preparation and, together with Ahn Gyeong-jeon, His Holiness the Jongdosanim, founded the modern movement of Jeung San Do—the third and final stage in the unfolding of Sangjenim’s and Taemonim’s Dao.

Following the Taesang Jongdosanim’s passing, the Dao lineage and leadership of Jeung San Do passed to His Holiness the Jongdosanim, Ahn Gyeong-jeon, who continues to carry forward the teachings of Sangjenim and Taemonim and to lead the globalization of Jeung San Do in this decisive era of the Cosmic Autumn.
