"Humans should respect the spirits, living in line with
their ways."
Dojeon 4:70:6
Jeung San Do practitioners gather at dojangs (dao centers) for ceremonial
rituals called chiseongs, in which they meditate and honor the spirit
world. An offering of water, light, and incense is made to Sangjenim
and Taemonim as well as the ancestral spirits and other celestial and
terrestrial spirits. In special chiseongs there may be offerings of food
and clothing. Every chiseong includes bowing, prayer, chanting meditation,
and readings from a sacred text called the Dojeon. Carried out with utmost
sincerity, attentiveness, and faithfulness, a chiseong fosters oneness
with heaven and earth.
Daily Chiseong
At each dojang, simple chiseongs are held twice a day accompanying morning
and evening mediation. Anyone seeking to learn the dao of Sangjenim
and Taemonim can attend. At these daily chiseongs newcomers can receive
instruction on the art of chanting meditation and other aspects of Jeung
San Do spirituality.
Wednesday and Sunday Chiseongs
As part of the regular practice of initiated members, there are chiseongs
held on Wednesday evening and Sunday morning. These include discussion
of Jeung San Do's spiritual teachings.
